Vocational Service
Overview
Rotary exercises “Service Above Self” through four avenues of service: Club, Community, International, and VOCATIONAL. Of the four, VOCATIONAL service is the most obscure. Three ways in which Rotarians can lift VOCATIONAL service out of obscurity are
a) through special projects with youth and young adults,
b) through club and professional networking, and
c) through international interest groups.
Youth and young adults
Rotarians can provide VOCATIONAL service to youth and young adults by establishing mentoring and internship programs; by participating in classroom adoption projects, career days, and career seminars; by sponsoring vocational awards; and by hosting 4-Way Test contests and programs.
Club and community
Rotarians can provide VOCATIONAL service to their fellow Rotarians and to their colleagues in the community by arranging and encouraging attendance at classification talks, by doing the same with business tours, by planning networking opportunities, and by participating in Group Study Exchange vocational days.
International interest groups
Rotarians can participate in VOCATIONAL service and a vocational satisfaction through Rotary’s Global Networking Groups. Rotary’s Global Networking Groups are currently comprised of more than 90 independent Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups. For a full listing of these and all the details, click on:
So please do what you can to provide VOCATIONAL “Service Above Self” whether with youth and young adults, or with your club and professional community, and/or through international networking. If you would like to share your VOCATIONAL service success story, please e-mail me a brief description (500 words or less) for submission to our District Newsletter.
