The District 6450 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program was held the weekend of Oct 9,10,11, 2009. 83 students from District high schools along with Rotarians, Rotaractors and Elmhurst College LeaderShape volunteers took part in the weekend, which was a resounding success. Friday’s activities included ice breakers, building balloon towers and learning leadership words and concepts. Saturday and Sunday the participants and volunteers took part in outdoor leadership and teamwork training led by the Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership School. On Saturday night we held the 11th annual Reality Store. This message received from one of the participants truly sums up the weekend.
“Thank you for inviting me to your RYLA retreat. It was much more than expected and I took a lot away from it. I think you along with all the other leaders made it a memory for all of us that participated. I wish we could of stayed up there longer. Everything was planned out amazingly and the experience was great.”
Thank you to all of the clubs who send students, the weekend chaperones and volunteers, the additional Rotarians who made the drive to Lake Geneva on Saturday to help with the Reality Store, and a huge thank you to my RYLA committee who are an incredible group of dedicated individuals.
