Program Description
Raise awareness and understanding of the devastating effects of land mines in countries that have been affected by the after effects of war.  Operation LIMBS in working with Dr. Smith and the Center for International Rehabilitation developed a series of video training lessons in use in countries that do not have access to the knowledge and procedures of manufacturing and fitting prosthetic devices on land mine victims. The videos also instruct victims in the use and care of their new limb.
Operation LIMBS  is presently working with the Rotary club of San Salvador, El Salvador to fund a clinic that manufacture prosthetics and treat victims of land mines and other injuries that require devices.

Benefits to program recipients
Allow individual in countries that have experienced war to move about freely and out of danger of exploding hidden land mines.  A land mine explodes every 26 minutes, maiming or killing innocent women, children and farmers. Today, there are 70 million land mines in 64 countries that pose a threat to the people who live there.

Country locations
In addition to the Distance Learning project that has benefited many communities, work is underway in El Salvador and is involved with other land mine projects of other Rotary Clubs working in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Central America.

Program needs from other Rotary Clubs
In addition to your assistance, Operation LIMBS is in need of your financial support to fund further education and training of how to detect and safely dispose of land mines and to provide funding for prosthetics for those who have lost limbs to land mines.
