KORYO

DG Art Davis has endorsed Koryo, the International Service project spearheaded by Gary D. Permenter, former Rotaract Chair, and now Koryo Internation Service Project Director.   Gary is assisted by Tony Guo, Koryo Internation Service Project Co-Director..

All Five Rotaract Clubs in District 6450 have partnered with Rotaract members in Seoul, Republic of Korea in the fundraising initiative, and with Rotarians and Rotaract members in China to deliver a breath of humanitarian aid to an orphanage and a hospital that are more prone to the impoverished conditions in North Korea.

Koryo Children’s and Maternal

Mother’s Humanitarian Drive
_____________________________

An Asian country where little is known by the international community, the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (aka North Korea) is located in east Asia encompassing 2/3rds of the Korean peninsula. It is home to approximately 25 million people most that live in extreme impoverished conditions lacking basic essential humanitarian items, and many other people, in the millions, who have already died from famine that has gone mostly unnoticed. Pyongyang, the North Korean capital has an estimated population of 2.3 million people. North Korea’s regime is a hard line Stalin style communist totalitarian regime that promotes a system of self-reliance or Juche. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, North Korea’s closest ally, and ongoing political sanctions by the international community, have resulted in innocent children and mothers suffering from malnutrition beyond epidemic proportions. Adequate medical care is non-existent to the masses, and the aid that is available is diverted to a select portion of the population. Hospitals are without modern expertise and are still utilizing way out of date technology and techniques. The average North Korean is without adequate heat and clothing, and are without proper hygiene items including soap, toothpaste and toiletry items that put them a much higher risks of contracting diseases.
