INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
Based on the Object of Rotary and as one of the Four Avenues of Service, International Service is a philosophical cornerstone of Rotary and the foundation on which club activity is based. As one of the objectives of Rotary, International Service encompasses “actions taken to expand Rotary`s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.”
There are many opportunities for each and every Rotarian in District 6450 to actively participate in Rotary activities and to provide “Service Above Self.” International Service is one area that District 6450 is actively engaged in and has many Clubs working together to “Lead the Way” and meet the needs of communities throughout the world.
QUARTERLY MEETINGS
To help facilitate opportunities for sharing and participating in International Projects by all Rotary Clubs in District 6450 and at the request of District 6450 International Chairs, there will be quarterly meetings of International Chairs and Directors.
Objectives
As a result, Pat Merryweather (District 6450 International Chair) is going to facilitate quarterly District meetings with interested Club International Chairs. The purpose of the meetings are several:
- Identify projects in which Clubs can partner together and share the work load and financial support
- Identify projects in need of sponsoring Clubs
- Identify ways to engage the youth in our Projects and our Clubs in their projects
- Learn from each other
2005-2007 Rotary Year Results
During the past two Rotary years 2005-2007, Rotary Club International Chairs were brought together at these meetings and shared project opportunities and learned from each other. While many Rotary Clubs may not have large funds to possibly do an entire International project themselves, through the meetings many found opportunities to participate and engage their Rotary Clubs in International Projects with other Clubs. Some projects involved many Rotary Clubs and some projects found a couple of Clubs developing and designing a project together. Through these meetings, many Rotarians also found the opportunity to visit some international project sites and to see and experience the impact of Rotary projects in international communities.
