Group Study Exchange 2010
District 6450, USA, District 4150, Mexico
Inbound—April 10-May 8, 2010
Outbound—May 8-June 5, 2010
Introduction: Group Study Exchange is an educational program of the Rotary Foundation wherein Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and receive professional study groups of four to six non-Rotarian team members and one Rotarian team leader to travel for four to six weeks, staying in the homes of Rotarians. The objective of this vocational and cultural exchange is to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace.
This year, our district’s exchange will be with District 4150, that extends 400 miles along the west coast of Mexico, from Guadalajara on the south to Culican on the north. The program in Mexico will include opportunities for the outbound team and team leader to identify international service projects partnering Rotary Clubs in the two districts for implementation in 2010-2011. Special emphasis will be made in recruiting team members who are interested in helping develop these projects.
Rotary District 4150 is located along the West Central Coast of Mexico, extending from Guadalajara on the south to Culican on the North. This region is often referred to as the “Mexican Riviera”, studded with beaches, tropical vegetation and mountains. The district includes such popular tourist destinations as Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan as well as many areas of historical interest. Guadalajara is Mexico’s second largest city and well known for its traditions, history and modern commerce.
Outbound—Team Leader Recruitment: The key to every successful Group Study Exchange is in the identification of a Rotarian from our District to be the Team Leader. The individual should have a strong knowledge of Rotary’s principles and programs; have international travel experience and language skills (speaking Spanish an added plus), be flexible, energetic and capable of working successfully with young adults.
