This project was mailed to all EarlyAct Liaisons and Advisors in January from Lisa Kosin of Westmont School EarlyAct. The committee would be interested in knowing if anyone picked this up as a project and if it was a success. Send replies to Susie.
Early Act Project Planning Guide
Project Name: DVD collection
For Ronald McDonald House Charities
1. PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to collect family movies on DVD to donate to Ronald McDonald House.
2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Ronald McDonald House charities, established in 1977, provides a “home away from home” for families who come to Chicago-area hospitals to receive medical treatment for their children. There are now 4 Ronald McDonald Houses in Chicagoland. The story is a familiar one for anyone connected to the houses. Forced to spend over $150 a night in an area hotel, families, often just sleep in the lounges of the hospital because they know they can’t afford the expense. As we all know, these families struggle financially and emotionally. With all the stress that families already bear having an ill child, they are in need of the respite that the house provides. One of the items on their 2007 wish list is DVDs of family movies. The families and their ill child will be able to select movies to view during their treatment. Movies will be collected from Early Act members willing to donate through the month of February. The sponsoring Rotary club will be invited to participate. Interact clubs will be invited to participate if applicable. Also, a letter will be drafted to deliver to local video stores asking them for the videos that would normally get disposed of after the popularity of the movie descends.
