Interact Fall Leadership Conference Report

Naperville Central hosted the District 6450 fall Leadership Conference on Saturday, Nov. 10th. 46 Interactors representing eight different high schools attended. This conference had the following goals:

1) Share ideas among Interact Clubs
2) Learn leadership skills through participation in activities
3) Learn about Rotary programs

Please click on the November 2007 Interact District Newsletter for the rest of the story.

September News:

Sometimes we are busy doing something for others that we forget to do something for ourselves. Team building within your club and with other Interactors is a fun part of this day. Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Leadership Conference on Nov. 10th.

Bring as many kids as you can!  The more the merrier!  I need to order shirts by Nov. 2nd, so help me out with numbers – I’ll order a few extra of each size. (I’m not putting a date on them, so we can use them again next year.)

Advisors: I’ve scheduled one session just for you.  You may want to accompany your students to a session or two. And I want to give you the freedom to do that. I think that there may be more than one hours worth of things to discuss, we can add another session.

If you have questions, please feel free to email me or call.

Finally, I’m interesting in doing a Rotary Bike Ride for Teens. (This may be more practical for the Naperville/Plainfield/Oswego area clubs – but EVERYONE is invited.)
The idea is ride from Naperville Central to Neuqua to Plainfield North? to Oswego (east or “central)  to NCHS and around again to Oswego. Every school we stop at we pick up your students and ride to the next school. The whole circuit should be about 20-25 miles. It would be an out and back ride, so if your students didn’t want to do the whole ride they could pass their school and end early. My Rotary Club will provide support vehicles for the entire trip. It should take about 3 hours at a leisurely pace with rest stops at each school.  Everyone who participates gets a t-shirt. We’d like to raise money for P.A.D.S. homeless shelter – so if we had 20 – 40 students riding and each raised $100 (ask your Rotary Club to help sponsor you!), we’d have a lot of fun, raising $2 – 4,000. I’ll come and talk to your club about this if you like.  (Ironically, I broke my fibula 3 weeks ago! But I got my doctor to say I can start pedaling!) The event date is tentatively planned for Nov. 4th – this is a Sunday – chosen due to less traffic on the roads. (I’ve been on the stationary bike twice this week! And rode my bike to school, since I can’t drive!)  More details to follow!!

If you don’t know me, then the above paragraph probably assures you of one thing – I’m a nut!  I’m a Rotarian, I former Interact Sponsor, and your district chairperson for Interact. My goals are 1) to bring us together to share ideas and learn from each other, 2) to give our great kids a chance to meet and learn from each other, 3) to help support new Interact Clubs (I spent many years “inventing the wheel” – it’s great to be a part of a network of Interact Clubs.)

Anyway, I’m excited that the school year is underway – thanks to Becky Swiontek and Matt Gresk, Naperville Central’s Interact Club is up and running. I can’t wait to hear from you. I do try and put a few newsletters out to share with what is going on…so have your club secretary send me an email on what your fall events are.

Let me know when your clubs are meeting, I’d like to try and get out to some soon. (Seriously. I may end up biking your way!)
